Jaldapara: Jaldapara National Park , (formerly Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary) is a national park situated at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas in Alipurduar Sub-Division of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal and on the bank of river Torsa. Jaldapara is situated at an altitude of 61 m. and is spread across 216.51 km2 (83.59 sq mi) of vast grassland with patches of riverine forests. It was declared a sanctuary in 1941 for protection of the great variety flora and fauna. Today, it has the largest population of Indian one horned rhinoceros in the state, an animal threatened with extinction.The nearby Chilapata Forests is an elephant corridor between Jaldapara and the Buxa Tiger Reserve and one of the dense forest in West Bengal. Also close by is the Gorumara National Park, known for its population of Indian Rhinoceros. The forest is mainly savannah covered with tall elephant grasses. The main attraction of the park is the Indian one-horned rhinoceros. The park holds the largest rhino population in India after Kaziranga National Park in Assam. Other animals in the park include Royal Bengal Tigers, elephants, sambar, barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, wild pigs, and bison.

Jaldapara is a paradise for bird watchers. It is one of the very few places in India, where the Bengal florican is sighted. The other birds to be found here are the crested eagle, Pallas's fish eagle, shikra, Finn's weaver, jungle fowl, peafowl (peacock), partridge, and lesser Pied Hornbill. Pythons, monitor lizards, kraits, cobras, geckos, and about 8 species of fresh water turtles can also be found here.

Many of the animals in the park are endangered, like the Indian one-horned rhino and elephants.

By Rail: Nearest railway station is Hasimara (HSA) around 10 km from Jaldapara and Dalgaon (DLO) is around 12 km from Jaldapara . Falakata (FLK) is also 22 Kms away from Jaldapara . New Jalpaiguri railway Station (NJP) is also 140 Kms away from Jaldapara.. It will take 3.5 hrs to reach Jaldapara by car from NJP.

By Air: Nearest Airport is Bagdogra (IXB). By car it will take 4hrs to reach Jaldapara from Bagdogra.

By Road: Jaldapara can be reached from Siliguri/Lataguri/Hasimara/Dalgaon by various hired vehicle.

Sightseeing :

There aremany places around Jaldapara where tourists can go for a sightseeing . Tourists can enjoy the dense forest of chilapota jungle or go to the leopard rescue center or go for a tribe village called totopara.

Chilapata  -  Chilapata Forest is a dense natural forest near Jaldapara National Park in Dooars. A drive through the forests is an interesting experience. Sighting of elephants are almost regular. River Torsha runs through the sanctuary. The forest is mainly savannah covered with tall elephant grasses. The wildlife, in addition to one-horned Rhinos, consists of wild Elephants, Deer, Sambhar, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer and Hog Deer, wild Pig, Gour and a number of Birds, Peafowls. There are forest safaris available inside forest which you can avail. The safari would take you inside the forest and wild life sighting is most common.

The CC Line watch tower is located close to Torsa river bed. The wide river bed offers view of a stretch of several kms and sighting of Gaur (Indian Bison), Elephant and Rhino is common apart from smaller animals such as Deers, Birds of wide variety and others.

Buxa Tiger Reserve - Around 85 Km from Jaldapara , this "Buxa Tiger Reserve" has been derived from Buxa Fort ('Buxa Duar' - a fort at an altitude of 867 metres on the Sinchula Range guarding the most important of the eleven routes into Bhutan), which once was used for detainees during freedom movement of India. This Tiger Reserve comprises the forest area of Rajabhatkhawa, Nimati, Barobisha, Rydak, Raimatang Jainti, Buxaduar and Bhutanghat. The main rivers are Sankosh, Raidak, Jayanti, Churnia, Turturi, Phashkhawa, Dima and Nonani. Area of the Tiger Reserve is 761 sq. km. with a core area of 331 sq. km The main Attractions of BTR is Tiger, Leopard (Black Panther also), Elephant, Clouded Leopard, Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Gaur, Pangolin, and Python. Buxa Duar is famous for its prison fort.
